Now that the baby is getting bigger and I am starting to show, I have been spending a lot of time researching how to scale my workouts. I want to stay safe while still getting my burn on. Fortunately, I came upon BirthFIT.com. It is by far the best resource for CrossFit training while pregnant. Their blog includes articles on how to scale workouts to the anatomy and physiology of the birthing process.
My coaches, especially Coach Dan and Coach Ashley, have been extremely supportive and encouraging, which I am very grateful for. Thanks to the crazy hormones and changes in my body, some days I don't feel as confident in my abilities. My coaches remind me that first, I am pregnant lol, second, follow what feels good for me at the time and third, every wod completed is another accomplishment. They break me out of my funk and help me to see the bigger picture. Thanks guys!
It's a boy! I had my anatomy scan sonogram on 8/18/14. Ryley is a healthy growing boy at 11 oz. All of his measurements are right on target and his heart rate is 132 bpm. It makes me feel good to know that my decision to continue CrossFit has been beneficial to my baby's growth and development. Keith has supported me in continuing my training from day one. He understands that a healthy mom means a healthy baby (love you!).
I am feeling great and have noticed a surge in my energy and strength lately. I am maintaining my strength training and have actually hit a few unexpected PR's like a 105# overhead squat, 90# strict press and 145# jerk (all without straining). When it comes to wods, I have decreased the intensity and I scale the weights and movements appropriately. This has allowed me to pay more attention to my form and will make me a better CrossFitter in the long run. (A cool side note- I can now feel Ryley moving around right after I finish a wod!) Sometimes I come into the box not knowing what to expect out of my body, but I always seem to accomplish much more than I thought I could. I know that as time goes on things are only going to get tougher but Ryley and I are up for the challenge!
