I was fortunate enough to attend the BirthFIT U workshop at CrossFit Hoboken with Kat. This was a real treat as the company is based in CA and TX. I had been looking forward to this for a month. The seminar did not disappoint! First off, Kat was friendly, approachable, knowledgable and fun. She made the four hours go by way too quickly. I just ate up the information she presented.
Much of the material offered in the first part of the seminar was geared toward nutrition, the cornerstone of health and fitness in my book. Here, I was introduced to the supplement fermented cod liver oil. I had no clue about the history and magical medicinal properties it possesses. Cod liver oil contains significant levels of vitamins A and D, two vitamins that we do not get enough of during the fall and winter months in NYC. Both vitamins play an important role in fetal development. Green Pasture was the recommended brand, which I have ordered and will most likely comment on in a future post.
The rest of the class focused on how to scale WODs for the pregnant client. Most of the attendees were coaches and only a handful were newly pregnant. Let's just say I was the most pregnant person there. Therefore, I became the example for alot of the movements, which I didn't mind. Kat did point out that my burgeoning belly has compromised my barbell path. She recommended taking the barbell from the rack or working with dumbbells or kettlebells instead. So, I must say adios to my much loved Oly lifts for now. But I'll be back!
All in all I really enjoyed this seminar and i highly recommend any pregnant CrossFitters, who want to continue, to check out what BirthFIT has to offer. If you would like more information go to www.birthfit.com.
